Relatives of Jabed Ikbal, 24, of Clementon were notified after the fisherman found the body of a young man  at the inlet south of the Ocean City-Longport Bridge, around 6 a.m. Saturday, an Ocean City Police Department spokesman said.

Ikbal had dove into the inlet last weekend on Great Egg Harbor to save two family members struggling in the rough tides. While the pair made it back to shore, Ikbal did not.

The U.S. Coast Guard, police, firefighters and EMS crews searched for Ikbal by helicopter and watercraft for days.

The Longport Fire Department launched a boat and on Saturday recovered the body, which was taken to the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
